The Guardian 928V with Battery Backup is a residential wall-mount jackshaft garage door opener designed for sectional garage doors with torsion spring systems.

This package includes the Guardian B5A928 battery backup system, allowing the opener to continue operating during an AC power outage and providing the battery-backup configuration required for qualifying residential garage door opener installations in California.

The 928V mounts beside the torsion shaft instead of using a conventional overhead trolley and rail. This frees valuable ceiling space and makes the operator especially useful for garages with high ceilings, overhead storage and compatible high-lift garage door systems.

Powered by a smooth 12V DC motor, the Guardian 928V is designed for residential sectional garage doors weighing up to 850 lb and up to 14 ft high. Compatible applications can include doors up to 18 ft wide and high-lift systems with up to 54 inches of high lift.

The operator also includes an automatic door lock, cable tension monitor, photo-eye safety system, motion-activated 1500-lumen LED lighting and Guardian's built-in BEAM Smart Port.

The battery backup package includes:

When normal AC power is lost, the opener can automatically operate from battery power.

Guardian notes that the opener operates at a slower speed while running only from the backup battery. This is normal battery-mode operation and does not by itself indicate a motor problem.

BATTERY PERFORMANCE

Under Guardian's published test conditions using a new, fully charged battery at room temperature with a properly balanced 8 ft x 7 ft sectional garage door, the B5A928 battery system can provide approximately 40 operating cycles after a 12-hour standby period.

Actual performance can vary based on:

• Temperature

Guardian lists approximately 24 hours for a full battery charge and an effective battery life of approximately two years under normal conditions.

BATTERY STATUS INDICATORS

The B5A928 battery system includes status indicators to help identify battery condition.

With normal AC power available:

During a power outage:

The operator may run more slowly while powered by the backup battery. This is expected.

BEAM V3 SMART CONTROL

The Guardian 928V includes Guardian's BEAM Smart Port.

AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK

The Guardian 928V includes an automatic door lock designed to physically secure the garage door when it reaches the closed position.

When an OPEN command is received, the lock retracts before the operator begins lifting the garage door.

The lock provides an additional physical security layer beyond relying solely on the opener to hold the door closed.

CABLE TENSION MONITOR

The included cable tension monitor helps detect a loss of proper tension in the garage door lift cable.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

The Guardian 928V should be installed only on a properly balanced sectional garage door with the correct torsion-spring and track configuration.

Before installation:

• Manually raise and lower the garage door and check for sticking or binding
• Inspect hinges and rollers
• Inspect lift cables for fraying or damage
• Inspect the torsion springs
• Verify that the garage door is properly balanced
