Product Description
The Miller Edge TruGuard TG-R-K10 is a monitored retro-reflective photo-eye system designed to provide non-contact entrapment protection for compatible automated gates and commercial motorized doors.
Unlike a thru-beam system with separate powered sensors on both sides, the TruGuard combines the emitter and receiver in one housing. A polarized reflector mounts on the opposite side of the opening and returns the beam to the sensor. This arrangement reduces wiring because power and operator connections are required only on the sensor side.
When a person, vehicle, cart, or other obstruction interrupts the beam, the photo eye signals the compatible operator to stop and/or reverse movement.
Key Features
- Miller Edge model TG-R-K10
- TruGuard monitored reflective photo-eye system
- Combined emitter and receiver in one housing
- Polarized reflector with protective hood
- Operating range of approximately 6 to 30 feet
- Normally closed and 10K monitored outputs
- Visible alignment beam for easier setup
- Polarized optics help reject false reflections
- Improved resistance to sunlight interference
- IP67-rated sensor housing
- Vertical or horizontal sensor mounting
- UL 325 Recognized Component
- Designed for compatible gates and commercial motorized doors
Reflective Photo-Eye Design
The TruGuard system includes one powered emitter/receiver assembly and one passive reflector mounted directly across the protected opening.
This design offers several advantages:
- Wiring is required on only one side of the opening
- Fewer powered components are needed
- Installation may be simpler than a conventional thru-beam system
- The visible beam helps the installer align the sensor with the reflector
- The polarized reflector helps prevent false activation from reflective surfaces
The sensor and reflector must maintain a clear, properly aligned line of sight.
Monitored Output Compatibility
The TG-R-K10 supports:
- 10K resistive monitoring
- Normally closed output
Before ordering, confirm that the door or gate operator accepts the required output type.
Some operators require a pulsed monitored signal or a manufacturer-specific photo-eye interface. The TG-R-K10 should not be assumed compatible solely because the operator has photo-eye terminals.
An approved interface module may be required when the operator uses a different monitored signal.
Operating Range
The TruGuard TG-R-K10 is designed for openings measuring approximately:
- Minimum range: 6 feet
- Maximum range: 30 feet
Actual performance depends on correct alignment, mounting stability, reflector condition, weather, sunlight exposure, wiring, and installation conditions.
Common Applications
The Miller Edge TruGuard may be used with compatible:
- Sliding gate operators
- Swing gate operators
- Barrier gate operators
- Commercial sectional doors
- Rolling steel doors
- Industrial overhead doors
- Warehouse entrances
- Parking facilities
- Loading areas
- Automated vehicle-access systems
The photo eye may be used only where the operator manufacturer approves its monitored output and installation method.
Environmental Protection
The emitter/receiver housing is rated IP67, providing protection against dust and temporary water exposure when properly installed.
The reflector hood also helps reduce interference from direct sunlight and protects the reflector from weather and debris.
All wiring connections, conduit entries, splices, junction boxes, and operator terminals must still be properly protected for the installation environment.
Compatibility and Fitment
Before ordering, verify:
- Operator manufacturer and model
- Required monitored safety-device signal
- Compatibility with 10K or normally closed outputs
- Available accessory voltage
- Distance across the protected opening
- Mounting location and orientation
- Reflector placement and line of sight
- Applicable UL 325 requirements
- Existing Miller Edge model or part number
Do not substitute the TG-R-K10 for a thru-beam or pulsed-output photo eye unless the operator documentation specifically permits it.
Package Contents
The standard TruGuard kit generally includes:
- One TG-R emitter/receiver sensor
- One sensor mounting bracket or protective hood
- One polarized corner-cube reflector
- One reflector protective hood
- Attached sensor cable
Operator wiring, conduit, mounting posts, junction boxes, interface modules, fasteners for the mounting surface, and other accessories are not included unless specifically shown or stated in the listing.
Installation Notes
The emitter/receiver and reflector must be mounted directly opposite each other at the height and location required by the operator manufacturer.
Installation requires:
- Correct accessory power
- Proper monitored-output wiring
- Secure sensor and reflector mounting
- Accurate beam alignment
- Protection of exposed wiring
- Configuration of the operator’s safety input
- Complete obstruction and reversal testing
Installation should be performed by a qualified commercial door, gate, or access-control technician familiar with monitored UL 325 safety systems.
Safety Warning
The TruGuard photo eye is part of an entrapment-protection system. It must not be used to bypass, disable, or replace any other required safety device.
Disconnect power before installation or wiring. After installation, interrupt the beam at multiple points and confirm that the operator stops and/or reverses as required.
Do not place the gate or door into service until the photo eye and every other required safety function operate correctly.
