Miller Edge RLC-K36 3' Non-Monitored Relay Light Curtain – 8-Beam, 32' Range

The Miller Edge RLC-K36 is a 3-foot non-monitored relay light curtain designed to provide an expanded infrared detection field across commercial and industrial door openings.

Unlike a conventional single-beam photo eye that protects only one point near the floor, the RLC-K36 uses 8 thru-beam infrared elements distributed vertically across the opening. If any beam is interrupted, the relay output can signal a compatible door operator to stop and/or reverse according to the operator's control configuration.

The system is especially useful for detecting pedestrians, vehicles, equipment, forks, mirrors, bumpers, and other objects that may extend above the detection height of a standard single-beam photo eye.

Expanded 3-Foot Detection Field

The RLC-K36 creates multiple infrared beams across approximately three feet of vertical door opening.

This expanded detection area can identify objects that may pass above a conventional floor-level photo eye, including:

How It Works

The system consists of two vertical components mounted opposite each other:

• Emitter

• Receiver

The emitter sends 8 infrared beams across the door opening to the receiver.

When an object interrupts one or more beams, the receiver changes its relay output. A compatible door operator can then use that signal to stop and/or reverse door movement.

Normally Open & Normally Closed Outputs

The RLC-K36 provides both:

• Normally Open (N.O.)

• Normally Closed (N.C.)

dry-contact relay outputs.

This provides flexibility when connecting the light curtain to compatible commercial door operator control circuits.

Important Compatibility Notice

The RLC-K36 is a NON-MONITORED light curtain.

It is primarily intended for commercial door operators manufactured before August 2010 that do not require a monitored entrapment-protection device.

It may also be used as an additional detection device on other properly configured installations.

For modern operators requiring a monitored UL 325 entrapment-protection device, use a compatible monitored light curtain, such as the Miller Edge MLC series, when required by the operator manufacturer.

Important Safety Information

The RLC-K36 must be installed and tested according to Miller Edge and door-operator manufacturer instructions.

After installation, interrupt the light curtain at multiple heights and confirm that the connected operator responds correctly before returning the door to normal service.

Do not use a non-monitored light curtain as a substitute for a monitored entrapment-protection device when the operator requires monitored protection.
