How It Works

The opener motor rotates the worm gear, which engages the larger helical drive gear. The drive gear turns the top sprocket, moving the chain and trolley along the operator rail.

When the plastic gear teeth become worn or stripped, the motor may continue running while the sprocket and chain remain stationary. A damaged sprocket shaft may also cause excessive chain movement, grinding, slipping, or visible metal shavings inside the opener.

Installation Requirements

Disconnect the operator from electrical power before removing the cover or servicing internal components.

The garage door should be fully closed before beginning the repair. Release the chain tension before removing the original sprocket assembly, and document the position of all washers, clips, bushings, and hardware before disassembly.

Remove old grease, stripped plastic particles, and metal debris from the opener housing. Apply the supplied lubricant only to the gear teeth and designated contact surfaces.

The chain must be correctly reinstalled and tensioned after the replacement assembly is fitted. An excessively tight chain can damage the new sprocket shaft, bearings, or gears.

Installation & Safety
