J.R.G. V2 Sectional Garage Door Chain Hoist for 1-Inch Shaft – 4.5:1 Gear-Reduced Manual Operator
The J.R.G. V2 Sectional Garage Door Chain Hoist is a shaft-mounted manual operator designed for properly balanced commercial and industrial sectional overhead doors with a 1-inch keyed shaft.
Its internal 4.5:1 gear-reduction system reduces the physical effort required to manually open and close the door. The internal gear-drive design also provides smooth, controlled operation while helping reduce the possibility of lifting cables jumping from the cable drums.
Product Features
- Designed for a 1-inch keyed door shaft
- Shaft-mounted jackshaft installation
- Internal gear-drive mechanism
- 4.5:1 gear-reduction ratio
- Maximum hand-chain pull load of approximately 35 lb
- Helps reduce the effort required to operate heavy sectional doors
- Smooth and controlled manual door movement
- Internal drive design helps reduce cable jumping
- Compact slide-on installation
- Suitable for commercial and industrial sectional doors
- Can be installed on either side of the door when clearance allows
- Durable construction for dependable manual operation
How It Works
The chain hoist slides directly onto the extended keyed shaft of the sectional garage door.
When the operator pulls the hand chain, the internal gear-reduction mechanism rotates the door shaft. The 4.5:1 reduction ratio allows the shaft to turn with less pulling effort than a direct-drive manual hoist.
As the shaft rotates, the cable drums raise or lower the garage door through the existing counterbalance system.
Compatibility
Designed for:
- Commercial sectional garage doors
- Industrial sectional overhead doors
- Warehouse doors
- Loading dock doors
- Service bay doors
- Storage facility doors
- Properly balanced torsion-spring door systems
- 1-inch keyed solid shafts
- Manual jackshaft applications
Before ordering, verify:
- Shaft diameter
- Shaft keyway
- Available shaft extension
- Side-room clearance
- Door height
- Door balance
- Cable and drum condition
This model is specifically designed for a 1-inch shaft and should not be ordered for a 1-1/4-inch shaft application.
Minimum Clearance
The J.R.G. V2 chain hoist requires approximately 3-7/16 inches of minimum shaft offset for proper installation.
Measure the available clearance around the door shaft, wall and track assembly before ordering.
Package Contents
The standard assembly typically includes:
- J.R.G. V2 chain-hoist assembly
- Hand chain
- Chain keeper
- Two shaft collars
- Wall-mounted L-bracket
- Shaft key
- Installation hardware
Package contents may vary. Verify the included components before beginning installation.
Important Matching Notes
This chain hoist requires a compatible 1-inch keyed shaft.
Do not select the product based only on the outside appearance of the existing shaft. Confirm the shaft diameter with a measuring tool and verify that the shaft includes the correct keyway.
A solid shaft is generally recommended for chain-hoist installations.
The garage door must be properly balanced before the chain hoist is installed. The hoist is intended to operate the door—not compensate for broken springs, incorrect spring tension or damaged hardware.
Installation Requirements
Proper installation requires:
- 1-inch keyed shaft
- Adequate extended shaft length
- Approximately 3-7/16 inches of minimum offset
- Structurally secure wall-bracket location
- Properly balanced sectional garage door
- Correctly installed lifting cables and cable drums
- Adequate side clearance
- Professional garage-door installation experience
The shaft collars must be positioned and secured correctly to prevent the chain hoist from moving along the shaft.
Installation and Safety
Garage-door springs, cables, drums and shafts operate under extreme tension. Improper installation or adjustment can cause serious injury, death or property damage.
- Installation should be performed by a trained garage-door technician.
- Never use the chain hoist to wind or adjust torsion springs.
- Confirm that the garage door is properly balanced before installation.
- Do not operate a door with broken springs or damaged lifting cables.
- Secure all shaft collars, keys, brackets and fasteners.
- Keep the hand chain secured in the chain keeper when not in use.
- Inspect the chain hoist and door hardware regularly.
- Stop using the door if it binds, drifts or operates unevenly.
- Keep hands, clothing and tools away from moving chains, shafts and drums.
