Understanding the 25/42 Measurement
“25/42” means a 25-inch relaxed spring body with 42 inches of additional stretch. At the rated stretch, the spring body measures approximately 67 inches, excluding end loops. The 42-inch measurement describes spring travel—not the total extended length.
Compatibility and Spring Selection
Designed for sectional garage doors equipped with a matching extension spring and pulley system. Confirm the door’s actual weight, height, spring dimensions, and attachment configuration before ordering.
In a standard two-spring residential system, two matching 80 lb-rated extension springs counterbalance an 80 lb door. Their ratings should not be added together to select springs for a 160 lb door.
Gold identification paint alone does not establish compatibility because color codes repeat across different weight ratings. Match the complete specifications, including length, stretch, weight rating, and end style.
Double-loop ends connect to compatible extension spring attachment hardware. Verify the existing connections before substituting a different end configuration.
Replacement Recommendations
Replace both extension springs together to maintain balanced operation and avoid pairing a new spring with a worn spring. Inspect the pulleys, lift cables, safety containment cables, and attachment hardware during replacement.
Safety Warning
Garage door extension springs store substantial energy and can cause serious injury or property damage. Installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified garage door technician.
Properly installed safety containment cables must run through both extension springs. Never loosen or remove springs, cables, pulleys, or attachment hardware while under tension. Do not operate a door with a broken spring, damaged cable, or unstable movement.
