Spring Specifications

Winding Right Wind
  • Made in the USA
  • All springs rated for an industry standard minimum lifecycle of 10,000 cycles
  • Springs come with winding and stationary cones installed and are stenciled and color coded for easy identification
  • Coated & oil tempered wire
  • The 258289R Right Wind Garage Door Torsion Spring is a long-length coated torsion spring designed for compatible overhead door counterbalance systems requiring a .2890 wire size, 2.625" inside diameter, and 120" spring length.

This spring is made for professional garage door spring replacement, spring assembly, and overhead door service work. It is supplied with installed winding and stationary cones, helping technicians save time during installation and ensuring the spring is ready for use in a properly matched torsion spring system.

The coated, oil-tempered wire provides a clean finish and added surface protection compared with bare spring wire. This makes it a practical choice for service companies, garage door installers, maintenance teams, and parts departments that need reliable torsion springs for compatible residential, commercial, or light industrial overhead door applications.

    Common Uses

This torsion spring is used as part of a garage door counterbalance system. When properly matched to the door, it helps offset the weight of the garage door so the door can open and close smoothly by hand or with a compatible garage door operator.

This spring may be used for:

    Garage door torsion spring replacement
    Overhead door spring assembly work
Residential garage doors when the specifications match
Commercial sectional doors when the specifications match
    Light industrial overhead door systems
Spring inventory for garage door service companies
Replacement of broken, worn, rusted, or incorrect torsion springs

    Compatibility & Fitment

This spring is compatible only with garage door systems that require the exact spring specifications listed above. Before ordering, confirm the wire size, inside diameter, spring length, wind direction, shaft size, drum type, cable size, door height, door weight, track setup, and existing spring configuration.

This is a right-wind torsion spring. Right-wind and left-wind springs are not interchangeable. Always verify the actual wind direction of the spring before replacing an existing spring. Do not order based only on the side of the garage door, because spring placement can vary depending on the door setup.

The 2.625" inside diameter must also match the torsion shaft and spring assembly requirements. This spring should not be substituted for a 1.75", 2", 3.75", or other inside-diameter spring unless the complete spring calculation and hardware setup confirm compatibility.

    Important Matching Notes

Garage door torsion springs must be matched to the door, not just to the old spring visually. A spring with the wrong wire size, length, inside diameter, or wind direction can cause the door to be too heavy, fly open, close too fast, damage the opener, wear out cables and drums, or create an unsafe door system.

If the door uses a two-spring setup, inspect both springs carefully. In many cases, both torsion springs should be replaced at the same time to maintain proper balance and avoid uneven lifting.

    Installation Notes

This spring should be installed on a properly maintained torsion spring system with compatible drums, cables, torsion shaft, center bearing plate, end bearing plates, bottom fixtures, and related hardware. Before winding the spring, inspect the full door system for damaged cables, worn drums, loose set screws, cracked bearing plates, bent tracks, worn rollers, and unsafe bottom fixtures.

After installation, the door must be balanced and tested manually before reconnecting or operating any garage door opener. A properly balanced door should move smoothly and should not slam down, fly open, drift, bind, or pull unevenly.

    Safety Warning

Garage door torsion springs are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury, death, or property damage if handled incorrectly. This product is intended for professional installation only.

Do not attempt to wind, unwind, remove, modify, or replace torsion springs without proper training, winding bars, tools, and safety procedures. Never use screwdrivers, pliers, punches, or improvised tools to wind torsion springs.
