Product Description
The Miller Edge OptiGuard OG-T-K10 is a monitored thru-beam photo-eye system designed to provide non-contact entrapment protection for compatible automated doors and gate operators.
The system uses a separate emitter and receiver positioned across the protected opening. When a person, vehicle, or object interrupts the beam, the photo eye sends a signal to the operator to stop and/or reverse door or gate movement.
The OptiGuard offers a detection range of up to 100 feet and includes protective mounting bracket hoods that help shield the photo eyes from sunlight, weather, dust, and debris.
Key Features
- Miller Edge model OG-T-K10
- Monitored thru-beam photo-eye system
- Up to 100-foot operating range
- Separate emitter and receiver
- Normally closed and 10K monitored outputs
- Visible alignment beam for easier setup
- Vertical or horizontal mounting
- Protective bracket and weather hoods
- IP67-rated photo-eye housings
- UL 325 Recognized Component
- Designed for motorized doors and automated gates
- Two-year manufacturer warranty
Miller Edge also offers a separate pulsed-output version for operators requiring a specific monitored pulsed signal.
How It Works
The emitter projects a beam of light toward the receiver on the opposite side of the opening.
When the beam is clear, the operator receives the normal monitored signal. When an obstruction breaks the beam, the signal changes and instructs the compatible operator to stop and/or reverse movement.
Because this is a thru-beam system, wiring is normally required to both sides of the doorway or gate opening.
Output Compatibility
The OG-T-K10 provides:
- Normally closed output
- 10K resistive monitored output
Before ordering, verify that the door or gate operator accepts one of these signaling methods.
Do not assume compatibility based only on terminal appearance. Some operators require a pulsed monitored photo eye rather than normally closed or 10K monitoring. For those applications, the Miller Edge OG-T-PKIT may be required instead.
Common Applications
The OptiGuard OG-T-K10 is suitable for compatible:
- Commercial sectional doors
- Rolling steel doors
- High-performance doors
- Industrial overhead doors
- Sliding gate operators
- Swing gate operators
- Barrier gate operators
- Warehouse entrances
- Loading-dock openings
- Parking and vehicle-access systems
Mounting Options
The emitter and receiver may be mounted:
- Vertically
- Horizontally
- Directly opposite each other across the protected opening
The included metal bracket hoods help:
- Protect the sensors from impact and debris
- Reduce direct sunlight interference
- Shield the photo eyes from rain and weather
- Maintain proper alignment in demanding installations
Environmental Protection
The OptiGuard photo-eye housings are rated IP67 for resistance to moisture and dust.
The mounting hoods provide additional environmental protection, but all wiring, connections, conduit, and junction points must still be installed according to the operator manufacturer’s requirements and applicable electrical codes.
Operator Compatibility
Before ordering, confirm:
- Door or gate operator manufacturer and model
- Required monitored safety-device format
- Normally closed or 10K compatibility
- Available accessory power
- Required mounting height
- Maximum distance between emitter and receiver
- Local UL 325 requirements
The OptiGuard is a monitored safety device, but it must be specifically compatible with the operator’s monitored input.
Package Contents
- One OG-T-E emitter
- One OG-T-R receiver
- Two protective mounting bracket hoods
- Through-unit mounting screws
- Through-unit nuts
- Through-unit washers
Mounting hardware for attaching the brackets to the wall, track, post, or other mounting surface is not included and must be selected for the installation surface.
Installation Notes
The emitter and receiver must be installed directly opposite one another so the beam crosses the intended entrapment zone.
Installation requires:
- Proper accessory power
- Correct monitored-output wiring
- Secure mounting of both brackets
- Accurate beam alignment
- Protection of exposed wiring
- Configuration of the operator’s monitored safety input
- Complete stop-and-reverse testing
The visible alignment light helps simplify positioning during installation.
Installation should be completed by a qualified commercial door or gate technician familiar with monitored UL 325 safety systems.
Safety Warning
The OptiGuard is part of an entrapment-protection system and must not be used to bypass or disable any required safety feature.
Disconnect power before installation or wiring. After installation, test the photo eye at multiple locations across the opening and verify that the operator stops and/or reverses as required.
The door or gate must not be placed into service until the photo eyes and all other required safety devices function correctly.
