This #40 offset link, commonly called a half link, allows compatible #40 roller chain to be assembled with an odd number of pitches. It provides a one-pitch length adjustment when the installation requires a chain length that cannot be achieved with standard inner and outer link pairs alone.

Use it in compatible door operator, gate operator, or other roller-chain drives where the equipment manufacturer permits an offset link.

PRODUCT DETAILS

• Product type: Offset link / half link
• Compatible chain size: #40
• Matching chain pitch: 1/2" (0.500")
• Matching chain inside width: Approximately 5/16" (0.312")
• Length adjustment: One chain pitch, or 1/2"

“Half link” is the common name for this component. It does not mean half of the chain’s pitch.

OFFSET LINK VS. MASTER LINK

An offset link allows a chain loop to contain an odd number of pitches. A standard master link joins compatible chain ends but does not provide the same length-adjustment function.

Choose the link type required by the chain layout and equipment instructions.

COMPATIBILITY

For compatible #40 roller chain where an offset link is approved for the operating load and speed.

Before ordering, confirm:

• Chain size and manufacturer
• Pitch and inside width
• Pin fit and link configuration
• Required finished chain length
• Equipment manufacturer’s approval for offset-link use

#40 and #41 chain share a 1/2" pitch but have different widths and other dimensions. This #40 offset link should not be substituted for a #41 link.

LOAD CONSIDERATIONS

A one-pitch offset link can reduce a chain assembly’s allowable working load and fatigue strength. Follow the chain manufacturer’s rating for the complete assembly rather than assuming the offset link carries the same load as standard chain.

For demanding applications, use the manufacturer’s recommended chain arrangement and tension-adjustment method.

INSTALLATION NOTES

Disconnect equipment power, secure the door or gate, and relieve chain tension before servicing.

Inspect the chain and sprockets for damage or excessive wear. Install the link and retaining hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions, verify free articulation, and set chain tension and alignment correctly. Reinstall guards before operation.

SAFETY

Keep hands, clothing, and tools clear of chain and sprocket pinch points. Never adjust a moving chain.

Do not use an offset link to compensate for a severely worn or stretched chain. Have a qualified technician inspect systems with binding, damaged sprockets, or recurring chain failures.
