The LiftMaster OES-SD16 Optical Edge System is a monitored entrapment-protection kit designed for compatible sectional commercial garage doors. The system installs along the bottom edge of the door and uses infrared optical sensing technology to detect contact with a person, vehicle, or obstruction during door closing.
When the flexible rubber edge is compressed, the optical beam inside the edge is interrupted, signaling the compatible commercial door operator to stop and reverse the door. This provides monitored protection across the door’s lower edge and helps support safe commercial door operation.
The kit provides up to 16 feet of safety-edge coverage and includes the optical sensors, rubber door-edge extrusion, and required mounting hardware. The rigid sectional-door mounting channel is sold separately.

How It Works
An infrared beam travels between the optical transmitter and receiver installed inside the flexible rubber edge.
When the bottom edge contacts an obstruction, the rubber extrusion compresses and interrupts the infrared beam. The safety system then sends a monitored signal to the commercial door operator, causing the closing door to stop and reverse according to the operator’s programmed safety functions.
Because the system is monitored, the operator continually checks the safety device for proper connection and operation.
