Coil Cord 20' SJEO 18 AWG 4-Wire – CC4204 / 4-20-4

The CC4204 20-Foot Coil Cord is a flexible retractable electrical cord designed for commercial and industrial garage door safety-edge and control applications where electrical wiring must move with the door.

This coil cord uses four 18 AWG conductors inside an SJEO-type flexible jacket and is designed to extend as the door moves while retracting into a compact coil when additional length is not required.

The CC4204 has a retracted length of approximately 4 feet and extends up to approximately 20 feet, making it suitable for applications that require a substantial range of movement without leaving a long loose cable hanging around the door.

Six-inch tangent leads are provided for connection at each end of the cord.

How It Works

The CC4204 provides a flexible electrical connection between a moving component and a stationary control circuit.

As the garage door moves away from the connection point, the coil stretches to provide additional cable length.

As the door returns toward the connection point, the cord contracts back into its coiled shape.

This allows electrical continuity to be maintained while reducing the amount of loose wire around the moving door.

In garage door applications, coil cords are commonly used to connect electrically monitored or contact-type safety edges mounted to the bottom of a commercial door with associated control equipment.

The four-conductor configuration allows the cord to support applications requiring additional conductors compared with standard 2-wire or 3-wire coil cords.

Applications & Compatibility

The CC4204 is commonly used with commercial and industrial garage door systems requiring a flexible 4-conductor connection.

Typical applications include:

• Commercial garage door safety edges
• Bottom-edge sensing systems
• Electrical reversing edges
• monitored safety-device circuits where compatible
• Moving-door control wiring
• Industrial overhead door applications
• Commercial sectional doors
• Rolling-door applications where the control system specifies a compatible coil cord
• Other moving low-voltage control circuits requiring four conductors

IMPORTANT:

This coil cord is not universally compatible with every safety edge, operator, or control system.

Compatibility depends on:

• Number of conductors required
• Wire gauge required
• Safety-edge design
• Operator or control-board requirements
• Monitoring method
• Required cord travel
• Electrical specifications of the connected equipment

Always verify the manufacturer's wiring diagram and safety-device requirements before installation.

Do not replace a 2-wire or 3-wire cord with a 4-wire cord simply because the physical dimensions appear similar unless the control system and wiring configuration support it.

Related Coil Cord Options

SSC also lists several related coil-cord configurations for different garage door applications:

• CC2122 – 12' SJEO 18 AWG 2-wire coil cord
• CC4202 – 20' SJEO 18 AWG 2-wire coil cord
• CC4203 – 20' SJEO 18 AWG 3-wire coil cord
• CC4204 – 20' SJEO 18 AWG 4-wire coil cord

Selecting the correct conductor count is important because different safety edges and control systems use different wiring arrangements.

Package Contents

• 1 CC4204 / 4-20-4 coil cord
• 18 AWG, 4-conductor configuration
• 6-inch tangent leads

Safety edges, junction boxes, air switches, operators, control boards, mounting hardware, and additional wiring are not included unless specifically stated with the product.

Installation Requirements

Installation should be performed according to the wiring diagram supplied with the garage door operator and safety-device system.

Before installation:

• Verify that a 4-conductor cord is required
• Confirm the required wire gauge
• Verify the required extended travel distance
• Inspect the safety edge and control system wiring
• Disconnect power from the operator before making electrical connections
• Determine suitable attachment and routing points
• Make sure the cord can extend and retract freely throughout the complete door travel

The coil cord should be positioned so it does not become pinched, stretched beyond its intended range, caught in the tracks, or tangled with other door components.

Allow sufficient movement for the door's full travel without creating excessive tension on the electrical connections.

Installation & Safety

Commercial garage doors are heavy moving systems and may cause serious injury if safety devices are installed or wired incorrectly.

Disconnect electrical power to the garage door operator before servicing or connecting safety-control wiring.

Keep the coil cord away from:

• Door tracks
• Rollers
• Hinges
• Counterbalance cables
• Drums
• Springs
• Chains
• Sprockets
• Operator drive components
• Sharp edges
• Other moving parts

Do not stretch the coil cord beyond its designed operating range.

Do not use a damaged, cut, crushed, excessively stretched, or deteriorated coil cord.

When the cord is used as part of a safety-edge or entrapment-protection system, the complete safety system must be tested after installation.

After installation:

• Cycle the door through its full travel
• Verify that the cord extends and retracts without binding
• Check all electrical connections
• Confirm that the cord does not interfere with moving components
• Test the connected safety edge
• Verify that activation of the safety edge produces the required stop or reversal response
• Test all other required entrapment-protection devices according to the operator manufacturer's instructions

Never bypass or disable required garage door safety devices.
