SSC BB-5 Outside Hookup Garage Door Bottom Brackets – 2" Track, 11 Gauge – Pair
The SSC BB-5 is a heavy-duty outside-hookup bottom bracket set designed for sectional garage doors using compatible 2-inch track systems.
Mounted at the lower left and right corners of the garage door, the BB-5 provides the attachment point for the lift cables while also supporting the bottom roller position.
The outside-hookup configuration positions the cable attachment on the outside of the bracket assembly, making it suitable for garage door systems specifically designed around this style of bottom fixture.

### What Is a Bottom Bracket Used For?
The bottom bracket mounts to the lowest section of the garage door and forms a critical connection between the door and the counterbalance system.
The basic load path is:
Torsion Spring → Cable Drum → Lift Cable → Bottom Bracket → Garage Door
As the cable drum rotates and winds the lift cable, the lifting force is transferred through the bottom bracket into the garage door.
The bottom fixture also supports the bottom roller so the lower section of the door remains correctly positioned in the vertical track.
### Outside Hookup Design
The BB-5 uses an OUTSIDE HOOKUP configuration.
This means the lift cable attaches to the drilled pin on the outside-hookup portion of the bottom bracket rather than using a traditional residential Milford-pin arrangement.
This configuration is commonly found on heavier-duty sectional door systems where the existing hardware is designed specifically around an outside cable hookup.
Always replace the original bracket with the same hookup style unless the complete door system has been properly engineered for a different configuration.
### Heavy-Duty 11-Gauge Construction
The BB-5 is manufactured from 11-gauge steel.
Compared with lighter residential bottom brackets, the heavier construction makes it suitable for more demanding sectional-door applications.
The bracket should still be selected based on the exact door hardware configuration rather than gauge alone.
### Designed for 2" Track
The BB-5 is intended for garage door systems using compatible:
2" TRACK
Do not confuse this model with larger outside-hookup brackets intended for 3" track systems.
SSC also offers other outside-hookup bottom bracket configurations for different applications.
### BB-5 vs. Other SSC Outside Hookup Brackets
SSC offers several heavy-duty outside-hookup bottom brackets.

- Bent
- Cracked
- Severely rusted

A damaged bottom bracket can affect:
- Cable alignment
- Door level
- Roller position
- Track travel
- Counterbalance performance
- Overall door safety

### IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING
Garage door bottom brackets are directly connected to the lift cables and may be under EXTREME SPRING TENSION.
DO NOT loosen, remove, modify, or adjust the bottom brackets while the garage door counterbalance system is under tension.
Improper removal can cause:
- Lift cable release
- Violent bracket movement
- Sudden garage door movement
- Serious injury
- Property damage
Before servicing bottom brackets:
- Secure the garage door
- Properly release or control spring tension
- Confirm the lift cables are fully unloaded
- Follow the garage door manufacturer's service procedures
- Inspect cables, rollers, drums, and related hardware
Bottom bracket replacement should be performed by a trained garage door technician familiar with torsion and extension spring systems.
After installation, verify that both cables are properly attached and tensioned, the bottom rollers travel smoothly, and the garage door remains level and properly balanced throughout its full travel.
