7-5/8-Inch OHD Torsion Spring Winding Cone for Left-Hand-Wound Commercial Garage Door Springs
This heavy-duty 7-5/8-inch torsion spring winding cone is designed for left-hand-wound torsion springs used in compatible OHD-style commercial and industrial overhead-door systems.
The winding cone installs at the winding end of the torsion spring and provides the winding-bar holes required to apply, adjust, and release spring tension. It is intended for large-diameter torsion spring assemblies commonly found on heavy commercial, industrial, warehouse, and agricultural overhead doors.
Because commercial torsion spring components must precisely match the spring and shaft assembly, verify the spring inside diameter, wind direction, bore size, wire size, and original cone configuration before ordering.

How It Works
The winding cone is installed on the adjustable end of a torsion spring.
A trained technician inserts properly sized winding bars into the cone’s winding holes and rotates the cone to apply or release spring tension. After the spring has been correctly wound, the cone is secured to the torsion shaft according to the door manufacturer’s specifications.
The winding cone must properly match the spring inside diameter, wind direction, wire size, shaft size, and spring design. Using an incorrect cone can cause the cone to slip, damage the spring, or allow the torsion assembly to fail.
Wind Direction
This winding cone is made specifically for a left-hand-wound torsion spring.
Spring wind is determined by the direction of the coils, not simply by the side of the door where the spring is installed.
On many standard torsion assemblies, a left-hand-wound spring is installed on the right side when viewed from inside the building. However, unusual commercial systems may use a different arrangement, so identify the actual spring wind before ordering.
Do not substitute a right-hand-wound cone for this left-hand-wound model.
Compatibility
Designed for compatible:
- Left-hand-wound torsion springs
- Springs with a 7-5/8-inch inside diameter
- OHD-style spring assemblies
- Commercial sectional overhead doors
- Industrial garage doors
- Warehouse and loading-dock doors
- Agricultural overhead doors
- Large custom torsion spring systems
This cone is not universal. Matching the 7-5/8-inch spring diameter alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Measurements to Verify
Confirm all of the following before purchasing:
- Spring inside diameter is 7-5/8 inches.
- Spring is left-hand wound.
- Original component uses an OHD-style winding cone.
- Shaft bore matches the existing torsion shaft.
- Cone accepts the spring’s wire size.
- Winding-bar hole size matches the required professional winding bars.
- Set-screw or fastening arrangement matches the original assembly.
- Original cone number is 158 when available.
Compare the replacement cone directly with the original component whenever possible.
Package Contents

Torsion spring, stationary cone, shaft, winding bars, bearings, drums, cables, fasteners, and other spring hardware are not included.
Installation Requirements
Installation requires correctly sized professional winding bars and torsion spring service tools.
The garage door must be secured against movement before the spring system is serviced. Spring tension must be safely controlled throughout removal, installation, and adjustment.
Never use screwdrivers, socket extensions, rebar, or improvised rods as winding bars. Improvised tools may bend, break, or slip from the winding cone.
Installation and Safety
Commercial garage-door torsion springs store extreme mechanical energy. Incorrect handling can cause the spring, cone, shaft, or winding bars to move violently without warning.
Serious injury, death, or major property damage can result from improper installation.
Installation and adjustment should be performed only by a trained garage-door technician experienced with large commercial torsion spring systems.
Never loosen the winding cone, remove its fasteners, or attempt to replace the cone while the spring is under tension.
