5-1/2-Inch Raynor-Style Torsion Spring Winding Cone for Left-Hand-Wound Springs
This heavy-duty 5-1/2-inch torsion spring winding cone is designed for left-hand-wound garage-door torsion springs used in compatible Raynor-style commercial and industrial spring assemblies.
The winding cone installs at the winding end of the torsion spring and provides the connection point used to apply and hold spring tension. It is intended for large-diameter torsion springs with wire sizes up to .4375 inch.
Because torsion spring cones must precisely match the spring diameter, wire size, wind direction, and spring system, all measurements should be verified before ordering.

How It Works
The winding cone is installed on the end of the torsion spring that must be rotated to apply spring tension.
Winding bars are inserted into the cone’s winding holes, allowing a trained technician to carefully wind or unwind the spring. After the correct number of turns has been applied, the cone is secured to the torsion shaft according to the door manufacturer’s specifications.
The winding cone must be correctly matched to the spring. An improperly sized or incorrectly oriented cone can slip, damage the spring, or cause the torsion assembly to fail.
Wind Direction
This cone is made specifically for a left-hand-wound torsion spring.
The spring wind must be determined by the direction of the spring coils—not simply by which side of the garage door the spring is installed on.
Do not substitute a right-hand winding cone for a left-hand winding cone.
Compatibility
Designed for:
- Left-hand-wound torsion springs
- Springs requiring a 5-1/2-inch Raynor-style winding cone
- Spring wire sizes up to .4375 inch
- Compatible Raynor-style commercial overhead doors
- Heavy-duty sectional garage doors
- Industrial and warehouse door systems
- Large custom torsion spring assemblies
Compatibility must be confirmed using the original cone dimensions, spring inside diameter, wire size, wind direction, shaft size, and door manufacturer specifications.
This cone is not a universal replacement for all 5-1/2-inch torsion springs.
Measuring Before Ordering
Verify all of the following before purchasing:
- Confirm that the spring is left-hand wound.
- Confirm the required cone size is 5-1/2 inches.
- Measure the spring wire size.
- Confirm the wire does not exceed .4375 inch.
- Compare the cone design with the original Raynor-style cone.
- Confirm compatibility with the torsion shaft.
- Inspect the spring for damage, distortion, or excessive corrosion.
Do not select a replacement cone based only on the garage-door width or height.
Package Contents
- One 5-1/2-inch left-hand torsion spring winding cone
Torsion spring, stationary cone, torsion shaft, winding bars, bearings, drums, cables, set screws, and additional hardware are not included unless specifically stated.
Installation Requirements
Installation requires correctly sized professional winding bars and proper torsion spring service tools.
Do not use screwdrivers, socket extensions, rebar, or improvised rods in place of approved winding bars. Improvised tools can slip or break while the spring is under tension.
The spring must be properly supported and the garage door secured before any torsion-system component is removed or installed.
Installation and Safety
Garage-door torsion springs store extreme mechanical energy. Incorrect installation or adjustment can cause the winding cone, spring, shaft, or winding bars to move without warning, resulting in severe injury, death, or property damage.
Installation should be performed only by a trained garage-door technician familiar with large commercial torsion spring systems.
Never loosen a winding cone, remove its fasteners, or attempt to change the cone while the spring is under tension.
