15" Push-Down Bumper Spring Pair – 6" Travel
The 15" Push-Down Bumper Spring Pair is designed for compatible sectional garage door systems where additional downward starting force is needed when the door is fully open.
These bumper springs are commonly used with standard-lift doors equipped with jackshaft operators. As the door reaches the fully open position, the springs compress and store energy. When the door begins its closing cycle, the compressed springs help push the door away from the fully open position while helping maintain proper lifting-cable tension.

How Push-Down Bumper Springs Work
When a sectional garage door reaches its fully open position, the door contacts and compresses the bumper springs.
The compressed springs store mechanical energy. When the operator starts the closing cycle, this stored energy provides an initial push that helps move the door away from the fully open position.
This can be particularly important on jackshaft-operated doors, where maintaining proper cable tension as the door starts downward helps reduce the possibility of cables becoming loose on the drums.
Common Applications
Suitable for compatible:
-
Standard-lift sectional garage doors
-
Jackshaft operator installations
-
Commercial overhead doors
-
Residential sectional doors with appropriate track geometry
-
Doors requiring assistance starting the downward cycle
-
Installations where maintaining cable tension at full open is important
Installation
Push-down bumper springs are typically positioned near the rear of the horizontal tracks so the door compresses both bumpers as it reaches the fully open position.
Both sides should contact the door evenly and compress approximately the same amount.
Proper positioning is important. Excessive compression can place unnecessary force on the door sections, rollers, hinges, and track, while insufficient compression may not provide the required starting force.
Compatibility
Before ordering, verify:
-
Door type and lift configuration
-
Horizontal-track length
-
Operator type
-
Available mounting space
-
Door balance
-
Cable and drum configuration
-
Required bumper travel
These bumper springs are not a replacement for the garage door's torsion or extension counterbalance springs and should not be used to compensate for an incorrectly balanced door.
Safety
Garage doors, lifting cables, torsion systems, and bumper springs can store significant mechanical energy.
Disconnect and lock out the garage door operator before installation or adjustment. Secure the door before working around the horizontal tracks, and keep hands clear of the bumper compression area.
Do not loosen springs, cables, drums, bottom fixtures, or other components under tension unless properly trained and equipped. Professional installation is recommended for commercial or jackshaft-operated door systems.
