$5.99

The 1-1/4" Solid Torsion Shaft is a heavy-duty steel shaft designed for commercial and industrial sectional overhead door counterbalance systems.

Its solid construction provides increased strength and rigidity compared with lighter tube-style shafts, making it suitable for demanding torsion spring systems, heavier doors, and applications requiring a durable shaft for transmitting spring torque to the cable drums.

Features

  • Shaft Diameter: 1-1/4"
  • Construction: Solid Steel Shaft
  • Heavy-duty design
  • Designed for torsion spring counterbalance systems
  • Suitable for commercial and industrial sectional overhead doors
  • Provides a rigid mounting surface for compatible torsion hardware
  • Suitable for repair, replacement, and new installation applications
  • Compatible with properly sized bearings, drums, couplers, collars, and spring hardware

How It Works

The torsion shaft is the central rotating member of a garage door counterbalance system.

Torsion springs are mounted around or connected to the shaft, while cable drums are installed near the ends. As the springs wind and unwind, torque is transferred through the shaft to the cable drums, which raise or lower the lifting cables attached to the door.

A properly sized shaft helps maintain alignment and reliably transfers torque throughout the counterbalance system.

Solid Shaft vs. Tube Shaft

A solid shaft is commonly selected when greater strength, rigidity, or load capacity is required.

Compared with a hollow tube shaft, a solid shaft can be advantageous in heavier-duty applications where the shaft must resist bending or twisting under higher torsional loads.

The correct shaft type should always be selected according to the door weight, spring configuration, cable drums, bearings, shaft span, and overall system design.

Compatibility

This 1-1/4" solid shaft is intended for commercial and industrial overhead door systems using compatible 1-1/4" torsion hardware.

It may be used with compatible:

  • Torsion springs
  • Cable drums
  • End bearing plates
  • Center bearing assemblies
  • Shaft couplers
  • Shaft collars
  • Spreader arms
  • Sprockets
  • Chain hoists
  • Jackshaft operators
  • Other 1-1/4" shaft-mounted hardware

Compatibility is determined by the required shaft diameter, hardware bore size, keyway configuration where applicable, system load, and counterbalance design.

Common Applications

Suitable for compatible:

  • Commercial sectional overhead doors
  • Industrial garage doors
  • Warehouse doors
  • Loading-area doors
  • Heavy sectional door systems
  • Torsion spring shaft replacement
  • Counterbalance system repair
  • New commercial door installations
  • Shaft extension or coupled-shaft systems when properly engineered

Verify Before Ordering

Confirm:

  • Required shaft diameter: 1-1/4"
  • Required shaft length
  • Solid shaft requirement
  • Bearing inside diameter
  • Cable drum bore size
  • Spring hardware compatibility
  • Coupler and collar dimensions
  • Keyway requirements, if applicable
  • Door weight and counterbalance specifications

Do not substitute a different shaft diameter or construction type without confirming the requirements of the complete door system.

Specifications

Product Type: Torsion Shaft
Shaft Diameter: 1-1/4"a
Construction: Solid
Material: Steel
Application: Commercial / Industrial Sectional Overhead Door Counterbalance Systems

Installation

During installation:

  • Secure the door before servicing the torsion system
  • Confirm all bearings and shaft-mounted components match the 1-1/4" shaft diameter
  • Check the shaft for proper alignment
  • Position springs, drums, collars, and couplers correctly
  • Verify that the shaft rotates freely within the bearing assemblies
  • Secure all set screws and keyed components according to their specifications
  • Confirm proper cable drum alignment before tensioning the springs

A bent, incorrectly sized, or poorly aligned shaft can cause excessive wear, cable tracking problems, bearing damage, or improper door operation.

Installation & Safety

Torsion shafts are part of a counterbalance system that operates under extreme spring tension.

Spring tension must be safely released before removing, adjusting, or replacing shaft components.

Installation and servicing should be performed by a qualified overhead door technician or an experienced individual familiar with commercial torsion spring systems.
