Residential Spring Failure Safety Device – Left Hand Wound, 2" Spring Fitting
The Residential Spring Failure Device – Left Hand Wound is a safety component designed to help prevent a residential sectional garage door from falling if a torsion spring breaks.
Installed as part of the torsion spring and shaft assembly, the device responds to spring failure by locking the shaft and helping prevent uncontrolled downward movement of the door.
This listing is specifically for the Left Hand Wound version and is designed for compatible residential torsion spring systems using 2" spring fittings and a tube shaft.

How It Works
A torsion spring stores a significant amount of energy while helping counterbalance the weight of the garage door.
If the spring breaks, the counterbalance system can suddenly lose its ability to support the door.
The spring failure device is designed to react to that failure and lock the shaft, helping prevent the door from dropping uncontrollably.
One Device Per Spring
One spring failure device is required for each torsion spring.
For a two-spring residential door, two correctly oriented devices are required — one for each spring.
This listing contains the Left Hand Wound device only. A corresponding Right Hand Wound model is sold separately.
Door Weight Limits
The residential device is rated for:
-
Single-spring door: Maximum 150 lb
-
Two-spring door: Maximum 470 lb
Do not exceed the manufacturer's specified door-weight limits.
Compatibility
Before ordering, verify:
-
Spring winding direction
-
2" spring fitting size
-
Tube-shaft configuration
-
3-3/8" shaft offset
-
Number of springs
-
Total door weight
This listing is for the Left Hand Wound model.
Do not select the device solely based on which side of the garage door the spring is located. Confirm the actual spring winding direction before ordering.
One-Time-Use Safety Device
This is a one-time-use safety component.
If the device activates because of a spring failure, it must be replaced rather than reset and reused.
The failed torsion spring and the complete counterbalance system should also be inspected before the door is returned to service.

Important Safety Information
Garage door torsion springs and counterbalance systems are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury if serviced incorrectly.
Installation and replacement of a spring failure device should be performed by a trained garage door technician. Always disconnect the operator and properly secure the door before servicing the counterbalance system.
