The Miller Edge 6' Light Curtain is a monitored commercial garage door safety device designed to provide an expanded vertical obstruction-detection field across the door opening.

Unlike a conventional single-beam photo eye that monitors only one horizontal line near the floor, a light curtain uses multiple infrared beams between a transmitter and receiver. The result is a much larger sensing area that can detect people, vehicles, carts, forklifts, equipment, and other objects at multiple heights within the doorway.

The 6-foot version provides substantially greater vertical coverage than the 3-foot light curtain and is especially useful for larger commercial and industrial door openings where broader obstruction detection is desired.

How It Works

The Miller Edge light curtain uses two vertical assemblies installed on opposite sides of the garage door opening.

One side functions as the transmitter and sends multiple infrared beams across the doorway.

The opposite side receives those beams.

Together, the beams create a vertical infrared detection field across the garage door opening.

When the sensing field is clear, the compatible garage door operator can operate normally according to its control logic.

If a person, vehicle, forklift, cart, pallet, equipment, or another object interrupts one or more infrared beams while the door is closing, the monitored safety system detects the obstruction and signals the garage door operator.

Depending on the operator and wiring configuration, the closing door is designed to stop and/or reverse.

Because the system monitors multiple beam locations rather than one single beam near floor level, it can provide substantially broader detection coverage.

A light curtain creates many infrared beams at different heights.

This larger sensing area can help detect objects that could otherwise pass above or below a single beam.
